Summer Season

An intense summer of concerts for the Quartetto di Cremona, who will perform in several festivals in Italy, Finland and Holland, presenting a wide range of repertoire (Beethoven, Verdi, Respighi, Schubert, Shostakovich, Bach, Hindemith). After a concert at the very first edition of the Festival dedicated to Arturo Toscanini in Parma, July will be a whole Finnish month, with performances and masterclasses at the Lounais- Hämeen Musiikkipäivien Festival in Forssa (as artist in residence), in Kuopio and Savonlinna (in collaboration with the Italian Culture Institute, Helsinki) and in Kuhmo for their debut at the Chamber Music Festival. Back to Italy, will follow concerts from North to South of the Peninsula, also sharing the stage with the young and talented cellist Erica Piccotti.
The epilogue to this intense musical journey will be in Zeist, Holland, at the Zeist Music Days Festival, an opportunity to hear Cremona playing with Alexander Pavlovsky of the Jerusalem Quartet and artistic director of the festival.

Standing Ovation At Lincoln Center

After almost a month, the Quartetto di Cremona looks back with joy and pride to one of the most prestigious and significant moments of its twenty-year career: the debut at the Chamber Music Society of The Lincoln Center in New York. The performance, held at the Alice Tully Hall, impressed the audience: at the end of the concert, long applause, several curtain calls and a standing ovation. There were also many enthusiastic reviews from the critics:
<< The playing was marked by admirable unanimity and blend […] an evening full of splendid music-making.>> Classical Source
<< This Italian group founded some 20 years ago, at the present time and in the opinion of many, carries the mantle of its legendary masters, the Quartetto Italiano which disbanded decades ago >>Concertonet.

Season 2021/2022 – Parte 1

After an intense summer of concerts, the Quartetto di Cremona begins its 2021/2022 season at full speed, with several performances in Europe and with an extremely wide repertoire (among others, Verdi, Saint-Saëns, Beethoven, Shostakovich, Mozart). Then, in the first part of November, the Cremona will be on tour in North America (Santa Monica, Houston and Montreal), where they will present also the “American” Quartet by Antonin Dvorak, their own interpretation of Bach’s “Art of Fugue” and will share the stage for the first time with American clarinetist David Shifrin for the performance of Anton Webern’s elaborate quintet.

Summer Concerts

The Quartetto di Cremona continues its summer concert activity with a European tour that will touch Finland, Denmark, Germany, Albania, France and Italy! And there will also be a small (virtual) stop in the USA for a concert followed by a Q&A session. In addition to their “traditional” repertoire (Beethoven, Bach, Schubert and Verdi, among others), in these summer concerts the QdC will perform composers who will enrich its already extensive repertoire and who will characterise the 2021/2022 season. Among them, Prokofiev, Ravel, Janaček, Dvorák. They will also present music by living composers (Nimrod Borenstein, Kalevi Aho) and welcome other musicians for quintet performances (Eckart Runge, Arben Llozi.)

Quartetto di Cremona Celebrates 20th anniversary with a new recording: Italian Postcards

The award-winning Italian quartet Quartetto di Cremona celebrates its 20th year anniversary as an internationally acclaimed performing and recording ensemble with the release of their first album for AVIE Records: Italian Postcards. It’s a collection of music inspired by the sounds, landscapes, history and romance of Italy, written by non Italian composers: Nimrod Borenstein’s Cieli d’Italia, commissioned by the Quartet; Hugo Wolf’s Italian Serenade; Mozart’s very first String Quartet, “Lodi”; and Tchaikovsky’s String Sextet, “Souvenir de Florence”.

Violist Ori Kam (Jerusalem Quartet) and cellist Eckart Runge (former founding member of the Artemis Quartet) join the Cremona for the Tchaikovsky’s sextet.

«Italian Postcards» illustrates the Quartetto – «is about coming back to our country, where we started. It’s an homage to our “Bel Paese,” although seen through the eyes of foreign composers who were inspired by our country. We wanted a few pieces that would offer short musical “snapshots” of Italy, and the works by Mozart, Wolf and Borenstein worked perfectly for that. We have always loved Tchaikovsky’s “Souvenir de Florence” which here serves as a bigger, more substantial piece to balance out the shorter works. Plus, it provided us the opportunity to collaborate with two fantastic players and friends, Ori Kam and Eckart Runge».

Made possible by the Franco Buitoni Award received by the Cremona in 2019, this CD was recorded at the beautiful Fondazione Spinola Banna per l’Arte.
